Paul writes a statement that challenged the thinking of the1st Century crowd. Crucifixion on the cross meant to shame, and humiliate the victim. And for people at that time to hear that Jesus died on the cross was not convincing enough because they saw that as foolishness. How could the savior of the world die on the cross?
It was a message that they couldn’t take. For the perishing it was foolishness but to the ones who are being saved, it is the power of God. Paul knowing the cultural context very well packs a powerful message proving that Christ did the incomprehensible for you and me, though beyond the feeble minds to understand, Christ did it prove his love.
In this study, I’ll be teaching on why did people see the cross as foolishness. And what was the process of crucifixion? And now that we have received salvation how do we have to live for God.
For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
